Yukiko Tsuchiya was born in Saitama, Japan. She earned her M.A. in Japan Studies from Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, with a Specialization Certificate in Teaching Japanese to Speakers of Other Languages. Before coming to UCSB, she taught at UC Berkeley, University of San Francisco, San Francisco State University, City College of San Francisco, and—as a JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) volunteer—College of the Marshall Islands, as well as in Thailand and Japan. Her main research interest is student motivation for foreign language acquisition. She enjoys reading, watching films and dramas, hiking, and camping. Also, she is a certified ACTFL OPI tester.
