Natalya Rodriguez Receives Fulbright U.S. Student Award for 2024-2025

We are pleased to announce that Natalya Rodriguez, a doctoral student in EALCS, has received a Fulbright U.S. Student Program award to conduct her dissertation research, “Threatened Threads: Weaving Values in Heritage Textile Production in Okinawa, Japan,” while affiliating with the University of the Ryukyus for the 2024-2025 academic year. Congratulations, Natalya!

Rachel Levine Awarded Fulbright Dissertation Grant

We are pleased to announce that EALCS graduate student Rachel Levine was recently awarded a Fulbright Dissertation Grant for 2023–2024 to pursue her project, “Breaking Open the Black Box: Shifting Discourse Policy and Praxis in Contemporary Japan” while affiliating with Sophia University, Tokyo, and working under the guidance of Professor Mari Miura (Faculty of Law). Congratulations, Rachel, we are proud of you!

Sabra Harris receives Fulbright Fellowship

EALCS graduate student Sabra Harris is among six grad students across UCSB to receive a prestigious Fulbright Fellowship. She will travel to Japan to continue her PhD research on “Emergent Indigeneities within Public-Facing Ainu Performance.” She and the other winners were recently featured in The Current, UCSB’s official news site.
